Senator Larry Scott, originally from Louisiana, received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Texas in Electrical Engineering. He has 48 years of oilfield experience starting with Continental Oil Company in the offshore Gulf of Mexico. He then transferred to Hobbs with Conoco 45 years ago to supervise an engineering group. He is a founding partner of Lynx Petroleum Consultants, Inc., a successful independent oil and gas production company operating exclusively in Southeast New Mexico.
Currently, the Senator is semi-retired while still serving as President. He is a past President of the Independent Petroleum Association of New Mexico and former Board of Trustee for the University of the Southwest. An aviation enthusiast, he also holds an airline transport pilot’s license and works with experimental aircraft.
He served in the New Mexico House of Representatives from 2015-2024 and was elected to the State Senate in 2024.
