Bloomfield, NM — Today, the Bloomfield Police Department issued a press release on the status of Officer Timothy Ontiveros. Unfortunately, despite fighting for his life, Officer Ontiveros succumbed to his injuries sustained on May 26, 2025 when he was shot multiple times during a traffic stop.
In response to this tragedy and senseless act of violence, Senator Steve Lanier (R-Aztec) has issued the following statement:
“My thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends, and fellow law enforcement officers of Officer Ontiveros. By all accounts, Officer Ontiveros was a man of outstanding character and demonstrated tremendous commitment to serving the communities of Aztec and Blooomfield. In addition to being a police officer, Officer Ontiveros served the community of Aztec as a volunteer firefighter. Violence towards our courageous, selfless, and dedicated law enforcement officers is truly evil. Our San Juan communities must come together in this time of need to unite and move forward in a way that ensures a safe environment for community members and law enforcement officers. I hope we never witness senseless violence such as this ever again.”
